On Thursday, 19/10, the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki IEEE Student Branch organised in collaboration with Major League Hacking its first technical workshop for this academic year! Around 30 participants learnt how to build scalable (web-based) applications using CockroachDB, a cloud-based SQL database, express and Node.js! The workshop entailed both a step by step analysis of the above mentioned programming tools as well as some small programming challenges to let the participants experiment with their own ideas.

More specifically, the workshop covered the following topics:
– Introduction to building apps using CockroachDB
– Introduction to Databases & CockroachDB
– Initialization of a CockroachDB cluster
– Introduction to nodeJS and express web framework
– Creation and scaling of an application
– Check the sustainability of CockroachDB in our application
